About Pentdoku

Pentdoku brings new challenges and strategies different from the traditional Sudoku puzzle, with a new layout based on pentagons and the numbers one through five or letters A-E.

Pentdoku offers a new landscape to involve your visual senses and logical thinking as you solve the numbers or letters to win the game. Colored dots tie together the interior and exterior games for additional hints to help solve each puzzle.

Begin by looking for the matched pairs of numbers on the outside game, then fill in the loops with the numbers 1-5 or letters A-E and finally, each pentagon with the numbers 1-5 or letters A-E. There are instructions at this site. Don't give up; look beyond the box you're used to being in and open your mind to the new challenge.

You'll find that half the fun of playing is the interaction required to actually play the game.

If you’re a puzzle lover, this one’s for you!

  • Puzzle Rules

    Exterior

    1. The exterior and interior games will have matching numbers in the “colored” triangles. In order to solve both games you must determine the numbers that belong in these matching “colored” triangles.

    2. Each pentagon in the outside game must contain the numbers 1-5 and 1-5 or A-E in the web-based puzzles.

    3. Each group of six triangles on the outside rim of the game must contain the numbers 1-5. See between the black arrows and highlighted by the green line. Another group is between the red arrows and a third group is between the green arrows. Since each group is double ended, it must have the same beginning and ending number.

    Interior

    1. Each pentagon must contain the numbers 1-5 and 1-5 or A-E in the web-based puzzles. The two numbers in each adjoining pentagon that overlap will be part of the answer for both pentagons. Example ( the 1 on the left is common to two pentagons and the 4 on the right is common to two other pentagons)

  • Puzzle Hints: Interior

Remember, some of the exterior game numbers (or letters) in the colored triangles can help solve the interior game by matching those numbers (or letters) into the same colored internal triangles.

Solve for the balance of the numbers (or letters) to fill each pentagon.

Solutions for each puzzle are found at the end of the book only in Volume 1.

    Enjoy!

  • Puzzle Hints: Exterior

If one of the end numbers or letters in a group exists, fill in the matching number  or letter at the other end of the group first.

Fill in any numbers or letters that can be determined by the rules above.

If neither of the end numbers or letters exists in a group, fill in all the possibilities for the numbers or letters that belong in each end triangle, then fill in the possible numbers or letters for the internal triangles in the groups and try again to solve by the rules above.

In these instructions, the numbers shown in black are the numbers as given in an actual puzzle. The numbers shown in other colors are to emphasize specific details.

  • Web-based puzzle addon rules

The web-based puzzles have several addon rules that will be necessary to understand how to play more easily.

To begin, don't forget to bookmark your downloaded file into your browser's library.

First in the web-based puzzles, the given numbers or letters will be in white and the numbers and letters you insert into the game will be in yellow.

You can play using both the numbers 1-5 or the letters A-E by clicking on the 1/A button.

To place a number or letter into the puzzle press on the yellow dot to open the specific pentagon you are working on. Once the pentagon is open, press on the specific triangle you want to insert the number or letter into and using pen mode go to the listing of numbers or letters at the bottom of the page and press on your choice.

If you make a mistake you can remove the choice you made by following the same process. When you press on the same number or letter the second time it is removed from the triangle.

If you are not sure of the number or letter which should be in a specific triangle, you can change to pencil mode and place as many choices as logically should fit in the triangle. (Please note: All pencil mode numbers or letters will be smaller and in white when inserted into the triangle).

If you determine later the correct choice of number or letter, using pen mode, simply overwrite the pencil mode choices. This will show up as a single number or letter in yellow.

Once you have placed your choices in the triangle, press the yellow dot and the pentagon will be placed back in the main game.

If you get through the puzzle and you don't get the message "Congratulations You Won",  you'll need to go back to find where there are duplicated numbers or letters in a specific pentagon or "Loop".

If you cannot resolve the mistake, you can use the "RESET" button and start the puzzle over again.

The timer is for fun (mostly). The timer does not reset to "0" if you reset the game to start again. It will continue to accrue time until you have won each game and then start from "0" at the beginning of the next game.
